Road crashes kill 11, injure 41
Eleven people were killed and 41 others injured in road accidents in Tangail, Rangpur, Chapainawabganj and Jessore on Thursday and yesterday.
Our Tangail correspondent reports, four people were killed and 15 others injured in a collision between a bus and a truck on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Mirzapur upazila of Tangail yesterday early morning.
Three of the deceased were identified as garment workers Ripa Khanom, 20, Lucky Khanom, 25, and Nurul Haque, 20, of Hatibandha in Lalmonirhat district. They were the passengers of the bus.
Gorai Highway Police said about 35 RMG workers were going to Gazipur from Lalmonirhat in the reserved bus.
The accident took place in Shavlla area at around 6:00am when the bus collided with the truck and fell into a roadside ditch.
The injured RMG workers were rushed to Kumudini Hospital in Mirzapur.
Vehicular movement came to a halt on the highway for two hours.
Our Rangpur correspondent reports, three people were killed and 25 others injured in two road accidents in the district on Thursday and yesterday.
Sakina Khatun, 60, of Mominpur village, was killed as a pickup ran her over while crossing in Mominpur area of sadar upazila on Thursday.
She died on the way to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
In another accident, two people were killed and 25 others injured when a bus collided head-on with a truck on Dhaka-Rangpur highway in Pirganj upazila at about 11:30am yesterday.
One of the deceased was Joynal, 35, of Ulipur upazila in Kurigram.
Pirganj police said the Dhaka-bound bus from Kurigram collided with the Rangpur-bound truck in Bish Mile area.
The bus plunged into a roadside ditch and the truck hit a tree, killing the two instantly and injuring at least 25 others, the police added.
Of the injured, four were admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital while others to Pirganj and Mithapukur upazila health complexes.
Soon after the accident, agitating locals put up barricades on the highway.
The injured persons alleged that the bus was being driven recklessly although its driver was asked to be careful several times.
Yet another accident, a woman was killed and her husband injured as a microbus hit an auto-rickshaw in Baraty bridge area of Taraganj upazila at about 10:00pm on Thursday.
The deceased was Mukul Begum, 56, wife of Nurul Islam, 65, of Balabari Hajipur village in the upazila.
Police said the speeding microbus from Saidpur rammed the auto-rickshaw on Rangpur-Dinajpur highway in the area, killing the woman and injuring her husband.
The injured was undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Our Chapainawabganj correspondent reports, a man was killed as a truck hit a motorbike in Nachole Bazar area of Nachole municipality in Chapainawabganj yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as Zahidur Rahman, 45, son of Ataur Rahman of Pakri village in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi.
Nachole police said the accident occurred at around 9:00am when the speeding truck hit the motorcycle in the area in front of Nachole Eidgah while the motorcyclist Zahidur was returning to his Pakri village from Pirpur village in Nachole upazila, killing him instantly.
Police seized the truck and arrested its driver.
UNB from Jessore reports, two people were killed in separate road accidents in the district town on Thursday night.
Sources said Muktar Hossain, 40, son of Salamot Ali of Isali Razapur village in sadar upazila, fell from a bus and the vehicle ran him over while he was trying to get into the bus in New Market area of the town at about 7:00pm.
Doctors declared him dead when he was rushed to Jessore Medical College Hospital.
In another incident, Abdul Kuddus, 35, son of Shafiur Rahman of Jhenidah district, was killed as a motorbike hit his motorbike on Chougachha road at Nimtola in the town at about 8:00pm.
He died at Jessore Medical College Hospital at about 9:00pm.
