Now AL men retaliate attack by BNP activist
Awami League activists yesterday vandalised the house and shops of a BNP activist in Khoksa upazila of the district in retaliation for the attack on an upazila AL leader by a BNP man in the morning.
Locals said BNP activist Abul Kalam Azad, also former councillor of Khoksa municipality, had an altercation with upazila AL Publicity Secretary Sudhangsu Kumar Madhab over a trivial matter at Janipur village at around 7:30am. Both hail from the village.
At one stage, Azad slapped Madhab hard across the face and left the spot. At around 10:30am, a group of AL men led by Khoksa upazila unit General Secretary Babubl Akhter went to Janipur vandalised Azad's house, villagers said.
They later went to Khoksa Bazar, vandalised upazila BNP office and three shops owned by Azad.
Protesting the attack, all shops owners at Khoksa Bazaar went on a wildcat strike. Officer-In-Charge (OC) Horendranath Saha of Khoksa Police Station said police have been deployed at the bazar to avert any further incident.
Contacted, Khoksa upazila AL General Secretary Babul Akhter said AL men were not involved in the attack on Azad's house and shops. The incident was a sequel to a previous rivalry between Azad and Madhab and the villagers belonging to Madhab group took part in the incidents.
