Ramu Attack

MKA sees national, int'l plots

Unb, Dhaka
Home Minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir has blamed “national and international conspiracies” for the attack on Buddhists last month. "Local and international conspiracies were behind the communal attacks on the Buddhist community in Ramu, Ukhia and Teknaf upazilas in Cox's Bazar," Alamgir told the news agency on Monday. "Those who masterminded the attacks will be put on trial,” he said. The minister said he reviewed the probe report with 11 recommendations submitted to the home ministry on Thursday. "Most of the recommendations have been accepted, and directives have been given to the officials concerned to take necessary actions," he said in reply to a question. Considering the size and terrain of Cox's Bazar district, the number of police force has been increased there, he said. Alamgir said committees, comprising members of all communities, will be formed for an indefinite period at different tiers, including union, upazila and district levels. The committees will take steps to prevent repeat of such violence, he added.
