Attempted Murder Case
BNP leader gets bail
The High Court (HC) yesterday granted anticipatory bail for four weeks to Dr Md Mazharul Islam Dolan, health secretary of BNP, and Dr Erfanullah Siddique, a member of Doctors' Association of Bangladesh (DAB), in a case filed against them and four others for attempting to kill three doctors.
Dr Mofakkharul Islam Rana, a leader of pro-BNP organisation DAB, filed the case with Pallabi Police Station on September 3.
According to case statement, dentist Md Kamrul Hassan, another accused in the case, hired some criminals to kill three DAB leaders, including Rana, on August 11 upon Dolan's direction.
Rapid Action Battalion, however, foiled the plot, it said.
On Monday, Dolan and Erfanullah filed a petition with the HC seeking anticipatory bail in the case, saying that the case was false and fabricated
An HC vacation bench, comprising Justice Farah Mahmub and Justice Mohammad Ullah, granted the bail after hearing the petition.
