6 killed, 9 injured in road accidents

Six people were killed and nine others injured in road accidents in Dhaka, Chittagong, Jhenidah, Magura and Rangpur on Tuesday and yesterday. Our staff correspondent reports, a madrasa student was killed on the spot as a pick-up van ran him over in the capital's Madertek area early yesterday. The victim was Mohammad Arif, 7, a student of Sarkarpara Jam-e-Mosque Madrassa. Qayum Ali Sarder, officer-in-charge at Sabujbagh Police Station, said the accident took place around 8:00am. After the incident, agitating locals blockaded the road for around two hours and vandalised the vehicle. Police handed over the body to the victim's family members. Our Chittagong correspondent reports, Kurshed Alam, 30, was killed on the spot as a truck hit him while he was crossing a road at Raozan in Chittagong early yesterday. Our Jhenidah correspondent reports, two people were killed and two others injured in road accidents in the district yesterday. In an incident, day labourer Motiar Rahman Biplob, 45, was killed on the spot as a truck ran him hover in Kaliganj upazila early yesterday. In another incident, a motorcyclist was killed and two others were injured in a road accident in Roghunathpur bus station area of the upazila early yesterday. The deceased was Emon Hasan, 30, and the injured were Mahmuda Khatun Mita, 19, Rubel Hossain, 28. Police said the accident took place as the motorcycle hit a roadside tree after its diver lost control over it. The victims were traveling to Jhenidah from Jessore riding on the motorbike. BSS reports from Rangpur, a motorcyclist was killed and two others were injured in a road accident near Teesta Railway Bridge at the juncture of Rangpur and Lalmonirhat districts yesterday. Police said the accident occurred when a bus hit the motorcycle killing Rafikul Islam, 35, on the spot and injuring Ashraful Islam, 32, and Shahidul Islam, 30. UNB reports from Magura, a three-wheeler (Nasimon) driver Fajed Ali, 60, was killed and five passengers of the vehicle were injured in a road accident in Maghidhal area of the district town on Tuesday night. Police said the accident occurred as the vehicle's driver lost control over the steering and hit a roadside tree injuring its six passengers around 8:00pm.
