ATN Bangla chief drops 49 journos' names from case

ATN Bangla Chairman Mahfuzur Rahman yesterday withdrew the names of 49 journalists from a case he filed on September 10. The case was filed with the First Joint District Judge's Court seeking an order to bar 59 journalists from staging demonstrations in front of the ATN Bangla office on September 16 and Jatiya Press Club on September 11. Mahfuzur Rahman filed the case against the leaders to prevent them from making and publishing any defamatory statements involving him with the killings of journalist couple Sagar-Runi. The remaining journalists including Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists President Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and its Secretary General Abdul Jalil Bhuyian, Ruhul Amin Gazi, president of a faction of the union, and Dhaka Reporters' Unity president Shakhawat Hossain Badsha will have to contest the case. The next hearing was fixed on November 29.
