Bring Murad's killers to book, demand protesters

Hundreds of locals of Keranipara area in the city staged a protest in front of the deputy commissioner's office yesterday, demanding arrest and punishment of the killers of Bayezid Faruk Murad. Murad, 28, a cable network operator of Keranipara area in the city died after he was severely stabbed by a local gang on August 3. The protesters gave a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur and later formed a human chain in front of his office for an hour from 12am. Addressing the human chain at the venue, the participants strongly protested the incident and urged the authorities concerned to ensure urgent steps to bring the culprits to book. Among others, Ferdousi Begum, former councilor of Rangpur municipality, Jafrin Islam Rifa and Delwar Hossain, father of Murad spoke at the human chain programme. They alleged that on August 3 night, local gangsters Milon, Shawpon, Sumon, Piar Ali, Saju, Suzon and Faruk stabbed Murad indiscriminately, following a dispute over cable network business. At one stage, the gang also severed his wrist. Bayezid Faruk Murad later succumbed to his injuries while on the way to Dhaka for treatment on Friday morning. The speakers alleged that police are yet to arrest the killers although they were moving freely and threatening the family members to withdraw the case. Altaf Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Rangpur Kotwali police station said police were trying their best to arrest the killers.
