<i>War heroines honoured</i>

Twenty-one Biranganas of Sirajganj, who survived torture by Pakistani occupation forces and their local collaborators during the Liberation War in 1971, were honoured on Tuesday. Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee organised a function to honour the war heroines in the hallroom of Uttaran Mohila Sangstha in the town. The function was addressed, among others, by Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee chief Shahriar Kabir, Deputy Commissioner of Sirajganj Aminul Islam, Nirmul Committee's Secretary Kazi Mukul, Ferdousi Priyovashini, advocate KM Hossain, Ali Hasan, Abdul Hai Talukder, Dr Jahurul Haq Raja, Gazi Sohrab Ali, Asad Uddin Pablu, and Safina Lohani Nirmul Committee's district chief Aminul Islam Chowdhury presided. Shahriar Kabir in his speech urged the government to take a move to realise compensation from Pakistan government for the victims who were killed, raped and tortured by the occupation army. Biranganas were officially honoured by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. After his brutal killing, the successive governments did not take care of the war heroines, he said. Shahriar Kabir requested the government to rehabilitate the Biranganas with due honour. Later, Nirmul Committee gave Tk 3,000 and a saree to each of the war heroines.
