The deposition made by Bimal Kanti Shil, the survivor of an arson attack in Chittagong's Bankshali that left 11members of his family dead, was concluded in a Chittagong court yesterday. “My father Tejendra Shil protested all injustice and oppressors in the village. By killing my father, the accused Nurul Islam removed any barrier that stood in his way. I pray that the killers be brought to justice,” Bimal said before the court of third Additional District and Sessions Judge (Acting) Syeda Hosne Ara Begum. The court deferred till July 16 the next hearing of the case, said court sources. In his deposition, Bimal further said, “My father and Nurul Islam were locked in a quarrel over ownership of our neighbour's pond. Nurul tried to forcibly occupy the pond and, when my father opposed him, he [Nurul] became angry. Following the incident, terrorists killed my family members on November 18, 2003.” After the deposition, the defence started quizzing Bimal but the court was adjourned leaving the questioning incomplete. Earlier, Bimal Kanti Shil gave his statement before the court on May 15, 23 and June 3. On November 18, 2003, arsonists set fire to the house of Tejendra Lal Shil leaving all 11 members of the family inside the house dead.
