Bangladesh envoy to Manila called back
Bangladesh Ambassador to Manila Majeda Rafiqun Nessa has been called back.
The foreign ministry has directed her to return to Bangladesh by July 15, official sources told The Daily Star yesterday.
Majeda was called back as she has been accused of corruption, irregularities, nepotism and mismanagement, which has seriously tarnished the image of the government, they said.
Graft allegations against her include selling the ambassador's flag car describing it as old, sources said.
The foreign ministry reportedly issued a letter to her asking her to show cause as to why she spent Tk 5.5 lakh on repair of the old car after a new car was bought for the ambassador.
Majeda was also alleged to have drawn more than Tk 10 lakh from the embassy funds through false bills in the name of the cost of her son's education in a Philippine university though the actual cost was Tk 2 lakh.
She was appointed ambassador to Manila on September 22, 2010.
