Staff Correspondent
The Detective Branch (DB) of police seized around 3,000 NCTB books from the capital's Bangla Bazar and arrested eight persons in this connection Tuesday evening. The detainees were involved in storing and selling the school textbooks of National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB), which were meant for free distribution. Nasir Uddin Khan, a senior assistant commissioner of DB, said, the arrestees admitted to have been selling those books for years and claimed that they had collected those from employees of different book binding organisations, who stole the books. The detectives, however, suspected involvement of a section of employees of the NCTB and some schools in stealing the books and may place the arrestees on remand. The arrestees are Bijoy Kumar Sarkar, 34, Md Abul Bashar, 48, Md Shahin, 35, Sazzad Hossain, 38, Hafiz Bhuiya, 45, Dulal Hossain, 31, Shahid, 40, and Shahraj Khan, 36.
