Journalists besieged the office of police superintendent in the district town yesterday demanding arrest of the culprits who stabbed their fellow colleague. They staged the demonstration as part of the month-long agitation programme. No attackers were arrested as yet eight days into the incident while police claimed that proper investigation was being carried out to identify the real culprits. On May 19, ABM Fazlur Rahman, 48, a staff reporter of the daily Shamokal, who also works for the ntv, came under attack on Pabna Edward College campus for publishing some corruption reports. A case was filed with Pabna police station accusing a few unidentified people the following day. Following the allegation, police arrested two suspects but they were freed later. The agitated newsmen marched from Pabna Press Club in the morning and laid a siege to the office of SP to press for their demand. Addressing the protest programme, Shibojit Nag, president of the press club, urged the district police administration to find out and arrest the criminals as soon as possible. During the siege, the SP told the journalists an investigation into the incident was underway to identify the real culprits. Meanwhile, Fazlur Rahman said he was worried as the real culprits still slip the dragnet.
