BCL vandalises meeting venue of left parties
Activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student front of the ruling Awami League, vandalised the meeting venue of Gonotantrik Bam Morcha in the town yesterday.
Manikganj district unit of Gonotantrik Bam Morcha, alliance of a few left-leaning parties, organised the meeting on the premises of the deputy commissioner's office demanding steps to check price hike of essentials and solve different problems including that of gas, electricity, water and fuel oil to mitigate public sufferings.
BCL leaders and activists led by Mustafizur Rahman Bipul, president of Government Devendra College unit of BCL, and Kazi Raju Ahmed Bulbul, general secretary, threw away the chairs and tore the banner at the meeting venue at around 12:30pm when the activists of Gonotantrik Bam Morcha were making preparation to start the programme, the left alliance leaders said.
The meeting was, however, held there.
Manikganj district committee coordinator of Gonotantrik Bam Morcha Manzurul Islam Babu presided over the meeting where its central committee coordinator comrade Bazlur Rashid Firoj, central committee members comrade Nazrul Islam, Zunaed Saki and Shovana Jamal addressed.
The leftist leaders alleged that police present at the venue failed to give them security although the meeting was organised after getting permission from the police administration.
The people are facing serious problems due to the price hike of essentials, crisis of gas, electricity, water and fuel oil and lack of security of life but there is hardly any scope to express opinions as there is no democratic atmosphere in the country, they said.
When contacted, BCL leaders Mustafizur Rahman Bipul and Kazi Raju Ahmed Bulbul said the attack on the meeting venue of Gonotantrik Bam Morcha was made following order from their (Bipul and Bulbul) party high-ups.
