Abdul Quddus is on the road to a great future. He just needs a little boost for success. Son a poor day labourer of Mastarpara village in Sarpukur union of Aditmari upazila under the district, Quddus obtained Golden A+ in this year's SSC examinations from Saptibari High School in Aditmari upazila. Local people come to their house to see the bright boy, the first person to achieve such a brilliant result from Masterpara village, but he often remains out of home as he has to work as a day labourer to support the family. Quddus, a student of science, wants to be a doctor but he is worried thinking about the expenses of higher studies. "My son Quddus passed the SSC examinations with good results. Now local people salute me. I want to see him highly educated. But I am a poor man. Only God knows whether our dream will be materialised,” said Abdu Quddus' father Mazan Ali, who works as a farm labourer for Tk 120 to 140 daily wage. "Quddus didn't demand anything from us. He worked as a day labourer during his off days to support us and bear his educational expenses. I pray to Allah that he brings glory to the country in future,” said his mother Kohinur Begum. She also works as a day labourer in the village to support the family. Abdul Quddus often borrowed books from his classmates as he could not buy all the required books. He went to his classmate's house beside their home during the night for reading as his parents cannot afford kerosene oil. "I studied six to seven hours regularly. I read books when my classmates were busy gossiping in the school. Teachers in the school helped me to solve different problems. I also got help from classmates,” he said. "Often I went to school without taking any food. We live in a piece of land owned by a neighbour. Now I need financial help to continue my study,” said Abdul Quddus. He has three siblings including two school going ones. Asaduzzaman Sarker, a teacher of Saptibari High School, said, “We are proud of Abdul Quddus. He did such a brilliant result mainly through personal efforts. We only helped him. He is sure to bring better achievement in future if he gets financial support.”
