Six robbers arrested after gunfight with cops
A policeman sustained bullet injuries during a gunfight with robbers at a shrimp enclosure in Saharbeel area under Chakoria upazila of Cox's Bazar district on Saturday night.
Both sides traded more than 200 rounds of bullets during the clash.
Assistant Police Superintendent Md Khalequzzaman said, acting on a tip-off, a police team reached the shrimp enclosure in Saharbeel area aat around 11:00pm.
Sensing the presence of the policemen, the robbers opened fire, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate, he added.
After an hour-long gunfight, police arrested six of the gang while the rest managed to flee.
The arrestees are Md Selim, 30, Nur Mohammad, 30, Zahir Ahmed, 50, Nurul Absar, 35, Zahir, 36, and Abdur Rashid, 32. They all hail from Sawdagarghona village under Chiringa union of the upazila.
Police seized two locally made guns and three live cartridges from their possession. The arrested robbers were wanted in a robbery case filed with Chakoria Police Station, police said.
Injured police constable Mohammad Arafat, 20, was admitted to Chakoria Upazila Health Complex.
