Attack on BGB team, 22 sued

A member of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was seriously injured as smugglers attacked a patrol team in Hatibandha upazila on Friday night. Ropis Chandra Dev, a member of Gendukuri BGB camp under Lalmonirhat 31 Battalion, is now undergoing treatment at the upazila health complex. A case was filed with Hatibandha Police Station accusing 22 smugglers, including a UP member, said Tapos Kumar, officer in-charge of the police station. Havilder Manik Miah, in-charge of the camp, said a four-member BGB patrol team chased local UP member Gomuddin Ahmed who was carrying 20 kgs of hemp in Baraipara Border area at around 11:30pm. Gomuddin managed to flee the scene, leaving the drug and his motorbike in the area. The BGB men seized the motorbike and drug. After a while, a gang of 18/20 smugglers led by the UP member swooped on the patrol team, leaving Ropis injured, said Havilder Manik, adding that the smugglers took away the seized drug and the motorbike .
