Robber killed in mob beating in Noakhali
Four others held with arms in Comilla
An alleged robber was beaten to death by a mob in Charkazi Mokhles area of Subarnachar upazila early yesterday.
The dead, Shajahan Selim, 48, hailed from Char Bazlul Karim village of the same upazila.
Locals a gang of eight robbers entered the house of Anwarul Islam of the area at around 1:00am.
As the family members cried for help, local people rushed to the spot and chased the bandits. They caught Shajahan and beat him up, resulting in his death on the spot. The other gang members managed to escape.
On information, police went to the area, recovered the body and sent it Noakhali General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
In Comilla, police arrested four alleged robbers along with arms in Chowdhury Bazar area of Chouddagram upazila on Friday night.
The arrestees are Russel, 35, son of Saleh Ahmed of Jagjur village, Rafiqul Islam, 40, son of Abdur Razzaq of Sukchail village, Alam, 28, son of Abu Taher, and Alauddin Apu, 26, son of Kamal Uddin of Hatbair village in the upazila.
Acting on tip-off, police raided the bazaar at dead of night and arrested the four while they were preparing to commit a robbery at a house in the area. Other three members of the gang, however, managed to flee.
