BCL, Jubo League clash over control of sand quarry
At least 10 people, including two policemen, were injured during a clash between the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jubo League over control of a sand quarry in Parashuram upazila on Friday night.
A police jeep, some other vehicles and at least 12 shops at Parashuram upazila market were ransacked during the clash that continued for three hours from 8:00pm
The clashing groups used Iron rods, machetes and other locally made weapons. Traffic movement on Feni-Parshuram road remained halted for more than three hours.
As cops from local police station failed to bring the situation under control, additional police from the district headquarters went to the spot and contained the violence.
Six of the injured were admitted to Parshuram Upazila Health complex while the rest given first aid at the hospital. Those admitted to the heath centre are Momtaz Miah, 55, Noor Nabi, 40, Abdur Rashid, 42 ,Kamal, 26, and ASI Shafiqul Islam, 36, and constable Shamsul Haque, 53.
Police arrested local Jubo League leader Yakub Nabi from the spot. Two cases--one by police and the other by an affected shopkeeper- were filed with Parashuram Police Station.
