45 sued on charge of attack on police in Gaibandha

Forty-five people have been sued on charge of attack on police at Protap village in Sadullpaur upazila of the district on Monday. Injured police Sub-Inspector (SI) Mosharraf Hossain filed the case with Sadullapur Police Station on Tuesday. A police team came under attack at Protap village after they arrested three people for their alleged involvement in a clash between the two rival groups of villagers over the ownership of a land on Monday morning. The clash ensued when Suruzzaman of Protap village and his men equipped with lethal weapons went to a disputed land for harvesting boro paddy. On receiving the news, Mukul Chandra Mohonta, who also claims the ownership of the land, and his supporters came to the spot and attacked their rivals. During the clash, at least 21 people from both sides injured. Being informed, police went to the village and dispersed the clashing groups. As cops picked up three people, including Mohonta from the spot, Mohanta's supporters barricade the road demanding release of arrestees. When police charged batons on the unruly men, they hurled brick chips on the law enforcers, leaving SI Mosharraf Hossain, SI Mofizuddin, ASI Abdul Jalil, ASI Rahman, ASI Rabiul Islam, constables Abdul Latif, Mohidul Islam, Mokhlesur Rahman, Musa Mia and Ganesh Chandra injured. Later Mahfuzer Rahman ASP (Circle) with additional police force went to Protap village and brought the situation under control. After filing of the case, male residents of the village fled their homes to avoid arrest Contacted, Abdul Jalil Sarker, officer-in-charge (OC) Sadullapur Police Station, said innocent people would not be arrested. Police will arrest only the accused in the case, The OC added.
