Md Ibrahim, the alleged rapist and killer of indigenous girl Sujata Chakma, was placed on a five-day remand after police produced him before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's court in Rangamati yesterday. Police had sought seven days' remand for the accused, said Mohammed Ali, investigation officer of Longudu police station. Ibrahim, 30, now a settler at Ultachhari village in Atharachhara union under Longudu upazila of Rangamati district, hails from Bolondi in Jessore district. Sujata Chakma, 11, daughter of late Jyotish Chandra Chakma of Ultachhari village, was brutally killed allegedly after rape by Ibrahim when she along with her youngest brother Triratan Chakma went to graze their cattle in the field at about 2:30pm on Wednesday. Later, victim's family members found Sujata's body in the nearby jungle. The victim's elder brother Biton Chakma, also a member of ward No 8 of Atharakchhara union parishad, filed a murder case against Ibrahim with Longudu police station on that day and police arrested him the next day. "Ibrahim allegedly raped another indigenous teenage girl on June 15 last year. After that police arrested him and sent to jail through the court. He came out from jail last month after higher court granted him bail," said Reazul Haque, the officer in charge of Longudu police station. Meanwhile, Monkya Ching, resident medical officer of Rangamati Sadar Hospital, said the three-member medical board will need a few more days to complete different tests to confirm whether the alleged killer had also raped the girl. Demanding fair investigation and trial for the brutal incident, Bangladesh Mohila Parishad, Rangamati unit, yesterday sent memorandum to the prime minister, the home minister and the CHT affairs minister through Rangamati deputy commissioner.
