50 injured as cops, BNP activists clash

At least 50 people, including 10 policemen, were injured in a clash between the BNP activists and law enforcers in Chotobazar area of the district town yesterday. The trouble began at around 11:00am when BNP men took out a procession from their district office as part of the party's countrywide demonstration demanding withdrawal of 'false' cases filed against the central leaders. As police intercepted the procession and charged batons on the BNP men, they started hurling brick chips on the cops. At least 50 people, including 10, policemen, were injured during the clash that continued for half an hour from 11:00am. The Chotobazar area turned into a battle field and shop owners kept their shutter down. Netrakona district BNP President Ashrafuddin Khan and Sub-Inspectors Al-Mamun and Maudud Hawlader are among the injured. Police arrested a BNP activist from the spot.
