Girls outdo boys in pass rate, Bogra on top of schools

The pass rate of female students surpassed that of males in this year's SSC examinations under Rajshahi Education Board (REB). The number of institutions achieving hundred percent pass in the SSC examinations under the board remarkably increased this year as 289 institutions out of a total 2433 taking part in the examinations saw all the candidates pass while it was only 76 last year. This year the pass rate of female students is 88.61 percent against 88.07 percent of male students while the total pass rate of the board stands at 88.33 percent, the third highest in the country. The pass rate of males was 81.18 percent against 79.38 percent of the females in 2011. The males' pass rate was 85.62 percent against females' 85.60 percent in 2010, males' 60.29 percent against females' 56.28 percent in 2009, males' 65.97 percent against females' 63.75 percent in 2008, males' 61.67 percent against females' 56.39 percent in 2007 and males' 62.25 percent against females' 58.90 percent in 2006. However, the girls are still lagging behind the males in achieving GPA-5. Out of total 10,726 GPA-5 winners, 6171 are males and 4666 females. Out of 9937 GPA-5 winners in 2011, the number of males was 5717 and that of females 4220. The male GPA-5 winners were 6248 against 4320 females among total 10,568 GPA-5 winners in 2010. Out of 1,32,660 registered SSC examinees from 2433 schools in eight districts of Rajshahi division this year, 1,31,965 students attended the examinations at 180 centres. More schools see 100 pc success The number of institutions achieving hundred percent success in SSC examinations increased by 213 institutions this year as compared to last year under REB. The number of institutions with hundred percent pass was 141 in 1010, 22 in 2009, 71 in 2008, 39 in 2007 and 57 in 2006. There is no school in Rajshahi division with zero to 10 percent pass rate this year, said Prof SMA Huraira, controller of examinations of the Board while announcing the results in a press conference. Replying to a question, Huraira said, This has been happening over the last three years as a 24-point guideline, prepared by REB authorities following a research, was sent to the schools and the authorities ensured application of the guidelines through continuous monitoring,” he said. The guideline includes involvement of teachers and guardians to take care of the students, identifying their problems and finding out solutions, he added. Bogra district tops list Bogra Government Girls' High School topped the list of 20 best schools in this year's SSC examinations under Rajshahi board while seven institutions from the district got their place in the list of 20 top institutions. Out of 231 examinees from Bogra Government Girls' High School, 230 came out successful and 213 of them achieved GPA-5. Pabna Cadet College secured the second place in the list as all its 56 students came out successful with GPA-5. The district saw four of its institutions in the list of top 20 institutions. Rajshahi Cadet College came out third in the list having all its 51 examinees passed with GPA-5 while Joypurhat Girls' Cadet College became fourth having all its 52 students passed and 51 of them with GPA-5. Cantonment Public School and College of Bogra stood fifth as all its 220 examinees passed and 205 of them with GPA-5. Other institutions in the top 10 include Bogra Zila School, Rajshahi Collegiate School, Armed Police Battalion Public High School of Bogra, Government Laboratory High School of Rajahahi, and Naogaon Government KD High School. Ten other institutions in the list of top 20 are Sirajganj Government BL High School, Natore Government Boys' High School, Rajshahi Government Girls' High School, Government PN Girls' High School, SOS Herman Gmeiner College of Bogra, BIAM Model School and College of Bogra, Pabna Zila School, Pabna Government Girls' High School, Pabna Ikkhu Gobeshana High School and Polli Unnayan Academy Laboratory School and College of Bogra.
