Young hilsa seized by the coastguard and fisheries officials

Two hundred and ten maunds of jatka (young hilsa) seized by the coastguard and fisheries officials from three Dhaka-bound passenger launches on the Dhaleshwari River in Munshiganj district yesterday were later buried on the riverbank. The government has imposed a ban on catching jatka to protect the stock of the popular fish but a section of fishermen have continued the callous act despite frequent drives by the law enforcers.Photo: STAR
