Fire at two markets in Pabna and Narsingdi gutted at least 12 shops yesterday.
A devastating fire damaged five large shops at a shopping complex in Pabna yesterday morning, reports our correspondent.
Fire fighters and the locals said the fire was originated at about 8am at Mina Fabrics of New Point Shopping Complex in the town from an electric short circuit.
The fire spread rapidly to four other shops including Mina Shirting and Mina Gift Corner.
Talking to this correspondent, Md. Aminul Islam Babu, owner of the Mina shops claimed that the fire damaged about Tk. 1 crore goods of his shops.
In Narsingdi, a devastating fire that broke out at a market near Madhabdi bus stand in Sadar upazila gutted at least 7 shops yesterday, reports UNB.
Fire brigade sources said the fire originated from a restaurant, named Hannan Hotel and Restaurant, at about 5am and soon engulfed six other adjacent shops of the market.
On information, two fire fighting units from Sadar and Madhabdi rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze with the help of local people after two hours of frantic efforts.
The affected shop owners claimed that cash and valuables worth over Tk 1 crore were gutted in the blaze.
In Sylhet, a fire damaged the house of an expatriate at Sheikhergaon village in Biswanath upazila on Wednesday night.
Locals said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at the house of Gous Ali, a Bangladeshi expatriate living in the UK, at about 10pm.
The flame badly damaged the first floor of the two-storey building.
On information, fire fighters from the city and Osmani Nagar rushed in and doused the flame after one hour of hectic efforts.
The affected family claimed that the extent of loss from the fire could go up to Tk 20 lakh.
