To realise the demand, they formed a human chain and held a rally in front of the health complex under the banner of Basail Nagorik Committee.
Speakers at the rally said, around one lakh 80 thousand people of Basail upazila, have been suffering for the last seven years as most of them were too poor to go for treatment at the district town.
They said the contractor concerned who got the work order to upgrade the upazila health complex from 31-bed to 50-bed one on August 24, 2005, was supposed to complete the job within April 23, 2007.
The contractor completed about 76 percent of the total work within the schedule time. But the rest of the work is still incomplete, leaving the health care in the upazila in an uncertain state, they said.
