PM to visit Barisal tomorrow

Address rally, open port, lay foundations of projects

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will Barisal divisional city tomorrow. All preparations have been taken for the day-long tour, first time after her takeover as PM. Advocate Shawkat Hossain Hiron, Barisal City Corporation Mayor and city AL convener, who is supervising the preparations for the visit, said on reaching Barisal at 10:00am, PM will inaugurate the modernised Barisal Port, lay foundations of the water treatment plant and 500-seat Bangabandhu Auditorium in the city. Besides, the Prime Minister may lay foundations of some proposed projects like Barisal Marine Academy, Muktijoddha Park on BIWTA marine workshop premises and Paira Bridge on Paira River at Lebukhali of Barisal-Kuakata road. After addressing her public meeting at Bangabandhu Udyan in the city in the afternoon, the PM will leave Barisal around 5:30pm, the BCC Mayor said. Dr. Mizanur Rahman, member secretary of Barisal Nagorik Samaj, said people of Barisal Division hope that the PM will make some specific declarations for developments of the area on the basis of its size and population. People want immediate construction of Padma Bridge, he said.
