Students of four schools yesterday took part in the English language fairs organised under English in Schools programme, an initiative of The Daily Star and mobile operator Robi. Lalpur Shreesundari Pilot High School in Lalpur upazila under Natore district saw lively participation of around 300 students, their teachers and family members during yesterday's English language fair, reports our correspondent. Globally renowned movie The Lion King was screened, followed by quizzes on vocabulary, extempore speeches, etiquette test and role play. A good number of students took part in joyful interactions and entertained the audience by reciting poems, telling jokes and singing songs. An English language club was also formed. Our Chittagong Correspondent reports: A daylong English language fair was held at Meher Nigar Girls' High School in Hathazari upazila under the district yesterday. Headmaster of the school Chitta Ranjan Roy, who attended the programme as chief guest, urged all to give importance to learning English alongside the mother tongue. The fair events comprised quizzes on vocabulary, moral lessons, extempore speech and role play. The Lion King was screened at the programme. Students also entertained the audience by reciting poems, telling jokes and singing songs. Our Tangail Correspondent reports: Around 150 students of Mirzapur SK Pilot High School in Mirzapur upazila under the district took part in joyful interactions during the English language fair held at the school auditorium yesterday. Following screening of The Lion King, the students participated in spot quiz, vocabulary test, one-word question and quick questions -- all based on the movie. Selected students also took part in extempore speeches on different topics and role-play. Later the students formed an English language club at the school. Our Bagerhat Correspondent reports: Students of Morrelganj Government Girls High school and Morrelganj KG High School took part in the English language fair held at the girls' school in Morelganj upazila under the district yesterday. The programme included presentation of The Lion King, onward question- answer session, situation-based questions, role play, extempore speech etc. Later prizes were distributed among the winners. To promote English language learning among school students across the country, The Daily Star in cooperation with Robi undertook English in Schools programme in 2009. Under the initiative, each of 1000 schools selected from 64 districts of the country receives three complimentary copies of The Daily Star five days a week.
