They have also brought vast tracts of land along with river banks under cultivation in Gosairhat, Naria and Jajira upazilas this year. The DAE has set a target of producing 19,500 tonnes of boro paddy by cultivating 4,200 hectares of land while 1,540 tonnes of nut by cultivating 1,000 hectares, 175 tonnes of maize on 150 hectares and 10,500 tonnes of vegetables on 700 hectares of land along the river banks of Padma and Meghna. The farmers of the three upazilas have reaped good harvest by cultivating boro paddy, maize, nut and vegetables like datashak, lalshak, pumpkin, arum, basil, cucumber, brinjal, gourd, lady's finger and sweet potato, officials said. Abul Bashar of Palarchar village under Jajira upazila told a correspondent of the wire service that he got a good yield of boro paddy from the Padma riverside last year.
