40 injured as AL rivals clash

At least 40 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups of Awami League at Chadpur village in Kuamrkhali upazila yesterday over election of a local school managing committee. Ferdous Ahmed, officer in-charge of Kuamrkhali police station, said two panels --one led by Abdur Rahim Mollah and another by Sohrab Hossain contested in the election of Chadpur High School governing body held in the afternoon. Of them, Rahim, general secretary of Chadpur union unit AL, won the election. It angered the men of Sohrab, an influential member of the unit. Following the incident, the supporters of Rahim and Sohrab attacked each other with lethal weapon, leaving over 40 from both sides injured at around 6:30pm.
