Youth injured by BSF men dies in Rangpur clinic

A youth, who was critically injured by BSF early Monday died at a clinic in Rangpur district on Friday evening. Rumi Begum, wife of Golap Hossain, 26, told this correspondent that her husband was attacked by BSF of Bhimpur camp in India while returning home with other cattle traders. According to the locals, the cattle traders went to India on March 5 morning BSF members caught four of them at Chhagaldangi village and allegedly tortured them with wooden sticks and sharp weapons. Besides Golap of Dakkhin Daudpur village, Erfan Ali Khiyan of Mamudpur and Nuruzzaman of Kasba Sadarpur were severely beaten up. The three managed to return to Bangladesh, but BSF detained Jalil Hossain, 40, of Harinathpur village of Birampur upazila of Dinajpur. Ariful Islam, 17-year-old son of Jalil said, his family members are yet to know the whereabouts of his father. "Our relatives in India looked for him at different the places after the BGB and BSF flag meeting but in vain", said Ariful. On March 5 morning, death news was rife at border villages of Birampur that Jalil was killed by BSF. Later at the flag meeting, BSF confirmed that they had detained Abdul Jalil. BGB sources at Daudpur camp said, at the flag meeting the BSF informed them that they handed over the detained man to Hili police in Dakkhin Dinajpur. BGB has sent a letter to BSF know the present state of Jalil, an official said. Meanwhile, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel returned an Indian boy to Indian Border Security Force (BSF) authorities through Charaldanga border in Gomostapur upazila of Chapainawabganj on Friday afternoon. BGB-43 Rifles Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Anwar said, Pandab Mondol, 14, of Tegharia village of Maldaha district in India, was catching fish in a river inside Bangladesh. Local people caught him and handed over to BGB Charaldanga BOP. Later, a BOP Commander level flag meeting was held between BGB and BSF and Pandab was handed over to BSF Kalaibari BOP Commander SK Jadev.
