Godowns, shops, houses gutted
Fire gutted two godowns, 17 shops and 26 houses in five districts on Monday and the day before.
Two jute godowns were gutted on Sunday midnight leaving a huge quantity of jute and lentil damaged at Chulkani Bazar under Harinakundo upazila of Jhenidah, reports our correspondent.
Harinakundo fire station officer Miraj Uddin said that the fire broke out at a godown of jute trader Abdul Aziz. Within minutes, it spread to at another godown. On information, Harinakundo fire service unit rushed the spot and extinguished the fire after five hours of frantic efforts.
Abdul Aziz claimed that the fire damaged 500 maunds jute and 40 maunds lentil worth Tk. 3 lakh.
In Lalmonirhat, fire gutted five shops with huge quantity of electric goods at Mission Crossing in the town on Sunday, reports our correspondent.
Of the shops, two were owned by Ashiqur Rahman Swapon, two by Nahid Hossain Nayon and another by Ramzan Ali.
Fire service sources said that the fire originated from Sourov Electrics due to an electric short-circuit.
In Gaibandha, a devastating fire gutted seven dwelling houses of two families at village Paschim Damodorpur in Sadullapur upazila early Sunday, reports our correspondent.
The fire originated from the kitchen of one Bazlur Rahman and soon engulfed the adjacent houses. All the belongings including cash, paddy, rice and poultry birds were reduced to ashes within half an hour.
According to the shop owners, the fire damaged goods worth Tk. one crore.
In Sirajganj, 19 houses were gutted in Dhaljan Khandakarpara village under Raiganj upazila on Monday, reports our correspondent.
Locals said that the fire originated at the residence of Abul Kalam of Dhaljan Khandakarpara at about 11:00pm and soon spread to adjacent houses of Noor e Alam, Sanowar Hossain,Tara Banu, Azibar Sheikh Azikul Islam and others.
At least 15 people were injured in the fire.
The affected people were living under open sky till filing this report Tuesday afternoon. The fire damaged properties worth over Tk 50 lakh, the victims claimed.
In Panchagarh, a fire gutted 12 shops at Amlahar Bazar in sadar upazila on Monday, reports UNB.
Fire fighters and locals said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at Mobarak Hossain`s cosmetics shop in the early hours of and soon engulfed 11 other adjoining shops.
The affected shop owners claimed that the extent of losses caused by the fire could exceed Tk 50 lakh.
