Lalon fest begins today
A five-day long Lalon Smaran Utsab (memorial festival) will begin at Lalon Akhra at Chheuria today.
The festival is held on this month every year at the time of Dol Purnima (full moon). Introduced by Lalon Shah himself, the festival has now turned into a tradition. A large number of baul (mystic) artistes take part in it.
Meanwhile, a large number of devotees and admirers of Lalon from all over Bangladesh and overseas have gathered to join the festival that highlights the philosophy of the mystic saint.
Lalon Academy which looks after the Lalon shrine at the place has organised the programme.
Veteran baul Abdul Karim Shah is expected to inaugurate it. Among others, Chief Whip of Jatiya Sangsad Abdus Shahid, lawmaker of Kushtia-4 Sultana Tarun, food secretary Barun Dev Mitra and secretary to Prime Minister's Office Nazrul Islam Khan will speak at the opening function.
Banamali Bhowmik, deputy commissioner (DC) of Kushtia, will preside.
