Three Kushtia AL men hurt in bomb blasts

Three leaders and activists of Awami League and one of its associate bodies were injured in bomb blasts in Mirpur upazila of the district on Wednesday night. The injured are Kamrul Arefin, 50, joint convenor of AL Mirpur upazila unit and also the chairman of Sadarpur Union Parishad, Taimur Islam, 45, an AL activist, and Masud Hossain, 30, an activist of Jubo League local unit. Captain Abul Kalam Azad, commander of Kushtia Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), said three bombs exploded simultaneously at around 10:30pm near Amla High School ground where a programme in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the country's independence was going on. The three AL men were standing over there and received injuries. He added. Rab personnel, who were on duty at the venue, sent the injured to Kushtia General Hospital. Several splinters were removed from the Kamrul's body while Taimur and Masud were given first aid. Kamrul claimed that the criminals launched the bomb attack to kill him. Our Benapole correspondent reported that police recovered seven bombs from kharki area in jessore Town early yesterday. Acting on a tip-off, police raided the area where a gang of criminals was holding a "secret" meeting at around 12:30am, Ashraf Hossain. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals managed to flee. Police recovered seven bombs from the spot.
