2 housewives murdered
Two housewives were murdered allegedly by husbands in Sylhet and Gaibandha districts on Wednesday and the day before.
A man was arrested on charge of killing his wife in Kumarpara area of Sylhet city on Wednesday morning.
On information, police rushed to the rented residence of Sohel Ahmed Masud and found the body of his wife Tanjina hanging from a ceiling fan at about 8:30pm, reports UNB.
Police suspected that the woman was killed and her body was hanged with scarf in a bid to cover up the crime.
The husband of the woman along with his seven months' old daughter Rahama fled away following the incident.
Police, however, arrested Sohel and his relative Shahed on Wednesday midnight. Rahama, child of Tanjina, was also rescued from the Medical Road residence of Shahed.
The couple has two children -- Rajiul Islam Samu, 5, and seven months' old Sohana Akhter Rahama. Samu was at his school during the killing.
In Gaibandha, a housewife was killed allegedly by her husband at village Pachbastha in Shaghata upazila on Tuesday as her poor father failed to pay dowry, reports our correspondent.
Police said, Rafiqul Islam married Bilkis Begum, 19, of village Burungi in Shaghata upazila, a year ago.
After the marriage, Rafiq demanded dowry and continued to torture Bilkis. At one stage, Bilkis left her husband to stay at father's home.
Recently Bilkis returned to husband's house after an arbitration. But the situation remained as before.
On Monday night Rafiqul and his family members beat up Bilkis mercilessly, killing her on the spot.
