Housewife murdered allegedly for dowry
A housewife was killed allegedly by her husband and in-laws for dowry at Haldia village under Louhojong upazila of the district early yesterday. The victim was identified as Tuli Rani Saha, 19, daughter of Swapon Saha, a small trader. Sources said following an affair for long, Julhus, son of Joynal Sheikh married Tuli a year ago and converted her into Muslim. Soon after their marriage, Julhus started to torture Tuli alias Meem Akhter to bring Tk 2 lakh as dowry from her parents which triggered a family feud between them, family sources said. At one stage of altercation early yesterday Julhus killed his wife and fled the village with his family members, leaving Tuli's body in the house. Meanwhile, the couple's one and half month old daughter remained missing soon after the incident. Sagar Saha, elder brother of the victim filed a case with Louhojong police station accusing four people including Julhus and his family members.
