BCL, Jubo League foil JCD reunion

An Eid reunion of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) was foiled allegedly by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jubo League activists at Kaliganj upazila headquarters yesterday morning. Iliyas Hossain Mithu, district Chhatra Dal joint convener, alleged that the ruling party men led by Publicity Secretary of BCL Kaliganj upazila unit Bakul Hossain and local Jubo League activist Masud attacked the reunion jointly organised by JCD Kaliganj upazila, municipality and Mahtab Uddin (MU) Degree College units near local BNP office at around 11:00am. They injured at least 30 JCD men, damaged over 100 chairs and tables and tore the party banner at the venue, Mitu said, adding that police backed the attackers and also beat up his party men. Of the injured, local Jubo Dal leader Ziaur Rahman was admitted to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex while the rest were given first aid at the hospital and different clinics. Refuting the allegation, BCL leader Bakul Hossain said the incident occurred due to internal feud of local JCD units. Contacted, officer in-charge Sayeed Kamruzzaman of Kaliganj Police Station denied the allegation of beating up of the JCD men. Being informed, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Md Abul Kashem went to the spot to bring the situation under control. But the JCD men fled the scene, seeing the law enforcers, the OC added.
