2 killed, 25 hurt in Kishoreganj, Sherpur clashes

Two people were killed and at least 25 injured in two clashes in Kishoreganj and Sherpur districts on Friday. One person was killed and 10 others were injured in a fierce clash between two rival groups in Katiadi upazila of Kishoreganj on Friday, reports our correspondent. The deceased was identified as Shamsuddin Mia, 36, son of late Aftab Uddin of Mandalbhug village in Katiadi. He was killed after his rivals hit him with a spear. Nasima Akter, wife of deceased filed a murder case accusing 26 people including three siblings Humayun Kabir, Nurul Amin and Ruhul Amin with Katiadi police station yesterday. According to police and locals, two rival groups led by Humayun Kabir and Saiful Islam of Mandalbhug village at Chandapur union in Katiadi upazila locked in a fierce clash over a trivial matter on Friday morning. Both the groups used lethal weapons leading to death of one Abdul Kuddus at Zahirul Islam Medical College Hospital at Bazitpur. In Sherpur, an elderly man was killed and 15 others were injured in a bloody clash over a disputed land at Shailer Par village in Sribordi upazila Friday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Abdul Majid alias Lechu, 65, a farmer of the village, reports UNB. Police and witnesses said, there was a longstanding enmity between Yunus Ali and Abdul Majid over the ownership of a piece of land. They said the clash ensued between the two rival families near the local eidgah area at around 4pm where Abdul Majid was seriously wounded being hit by a brickbat. He died on way to Sherpur General Hospital. Police arrested four people in this connection. Victim's son later filed a murder case.
