BNP office set on fire after JCD men stab BCL activist

BCL activists set fire to Mohendra Nagar union BNP office and ransacked at least five shops at Burir Bazar in Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila on Friday night after JCD men stabbed a BCL activist at the bazar. The critically injured BCL activist, Enamul Haque, is undergoing treatment at Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital. As a sequel to the incident, the activists of local AL and its associate bodies and local BNP and its associate bodies equipped with lethal weapons assembled at the bazar yesterday morning and locked in a clash at around 10:30am. As the AL and BNP men made attack and counter attack, police fired at least 15 tear gas shells and used truncheons to disperse the clashing groups. At least 10 people from both sides were injured during police action. The injured were admitted to the upazila heath complex. Shops remained closed and vehicles were off the road at Burir Bazar yesterday. Additional police have been deployed there to avert further clash. Lalmonirhat BNP President Principal Asadul Habib Dulal at a press conference yesterday alleged that AL men with the help of police chased and injured BNP activists and set fire to their party office at Mohendra Nagar. District AL secretary advocate Motiur Rahman denied the allegations. He demanded immediate arrest of the JCD men who stabbed Enamul at Burir Bazar on Friday night. 12 hurt in Narail AL-BNP clash Our Narail correspondent reported that at least 12 people were injured in a clash between BNP and AL activists in Lohagara upazila on Friday. Locals said the activists of the two rival parties clashed over establish supremacy in Noldi union at around 1:00pm, leaving at least 12 people from both sides injured. Being informed, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Of the injured, two were admitted to Khulna Medical College and Hospital, three to Narail Sadar Hospital while the rest given first aid at different clinics. In Kalia upazila, two rival groups clashed following an altercation over registration of a land at Kaladanga village, leaving three people injured. The injured Golam Mostofa, 60, his wife Sufia Begum, 50, and Daughter Mujida Khatun, 20. They are undergoing treatment at Narail Sadar Hospital. Injured Golam Mostofa alleged that Kobad Sheikh of the village and his hired men swooped on them following an altercation with him over registration of a 10 decimal land he purchased from Kobad for years ago.
