Three charge-sheeted in Khulna Press Club attack case

Charges have been pressed against three people in the case for attack on Khulna Press Club. Sub-Inspector (SI) Rashed Ahmed of Khulna Sadar Police Station submitted the charge-sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on November 3. The accused are land grabber Monir Hossain and his accomplices Saidul Howlader and Rafique Ahmed. Saidul and Rafique are now in Khulna district jail. According to the charge sheet, the accused and their hired men stormed into the press club when a press conference under banner of 'Landless Cooperative Society' of Batiaghata upazila of Khulna district was being held there at 10:30am on October 25. They also swooped on the employees of the press Club and some journalists as they tried to prevent them from entering the club without prior permission. The on-duty policemen arrested the accused while other attackers fled the scene. Mohammad Shaheb Ali, general secretary of Khulna Press Club, lodged a case with Khulna Sadar Police Station at 4:30 pm on the day against Monir Hossain, Saidul and Rafique. Later, the case was recorded under sections 4 and 5 of the Speedy Trial Act.
