At least 15 people were injured and 12 houses vandalised during a clash between the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) at Patna village under Kalia upazila of the district on Wednesday evening. Locals said there has been a long-standing rivalry between BNP Naragati unit President Moti Kha and BCL Naragati unit General Secretary Julfikar Ali over establishing supremacy at the village. They said the supporters of Moti Kha assaulted Julfikar Ali and his six associates a month ago. To take revenge on his political enemies, Julfikar and his men equipped with lethal weapons attacked Moti Kha and his brothers Ali Kha and Zia Kha near a bridge at Patna village at around 7:00pm yesterday, leaving them seriously injured, the villagers added. When the news reached the village, the supporters of Moti Kha attacked the houses of BCL leader Julfikar and his men, prompting them to retaliate. At least 15 people, including Julfikar's father and mother, were injured during the attack and counter-attack. The houses of Moti Kha and his supporters were also vandalised by Julfikar's men. Moti Kha and his two brothers were sent to Kalia Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Khulna Medical College and Hospital while the rest were admitted to the health complex. Being informed, police rushed to the spot, dispersed the clashing groups and brought the situation under control. Contacted, Sub-inspector (SI) Faruk Hossain of Naragati Police Station said police have been deployed at the village to keep the situation under control.
