20 hurt as Nilphamari jail inmates clash
Prisoners clashed with hajatees (under-trial prisoners) in Nilphamari district jail yesterday over inadequate supply of food leaving 20 of them injured.
Paritosh, a prisoner, with serious burn injuries was treated at Nilphamari Adhunik Hospital. Others underwent treatment at the jail hospital.
Jail sources said, the clash ensued when the under-trial prisoners were served with stale and inadequate breakfast. They blamed the prisoners for supply of inadequate food and clashed with them.
A jail police requesting anonymity told the wire service that various irregularities, including inadequate food supply, were continuing in the prison since arrival of the new jailer about four months ago.
