Elephants kill one in Rangamati
Wild elephants killed a man and injured two others at Chalyatali village under Longudu upazila of the district on Monday night.
The deceased is Md Hafiz Uddin, 53, and the injured are Md Solaiman, 30, and Osman Khokan, 32.
The injured are undergoing treatment at Rabeta Hospital at Longudu. The incident occurred when a herd of elephants numbering about 13, came to the village in search of food.
At one stage, the elephants attacked the villagers, killing Hafiz on the spot and injuring two others.
The elephants also damaged at least 30 thatched houses and destroyed paddy and fruit orchards, said Vasanya Adam Union Parishad chairman.
