2 die, 4 fall sick after taking spurious liquor in Rajbari

Two youths died and four others fell sick following intake of spurious liquor at Doyalnagar in Sadar upazila, Rajbari, on the night of Eid (Monday night). The dead were identified as Shipu Molla, 23, son of Hachhen Ali and Siddik Miji, 25, son of late Bochhir Uddin Miji of Doyalnagar. Six youths fell sick on the fateful night following intake of spurious liquor of a shop belonging to Santosh Kumar Dutta his son Sabuj Kumar Dutta of Surjonagar Bazar in Doyalnagar, Siddik Miji's brother Tuku Miji said. They were taken to Rajbari Sadar Hospital. Doctors referred them to Faridpur Medical College and Hospital (FMCH) and Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for better treatment on Tuesday. But Siddik Miji died at FMCH while Shipu Molla died on way to DMCH the same night. Shipu Molla's brother Atahar Hossain Molla filed a murder case against the drug shop owners Santosh Kumar Dutta the same night. Police arrested both Santosh and Sabuj from the shop. Police also recovered 98 bottles of phensidyl from the shop. Contacted, Rajbari superintendent of police (SP) Rezaul Karim said the arrestees were running business without trade license. Four other sick youths were undergoing treatment at FMCH till filing of this report yesterday evening. Meanwhile, local businessmen kept their shutters down for four hours yesterday afternoon demanding release of the arrested businessmen. The president of Rajbari Chamber of Commerce and Industry Zakir Hossain said that spirit is being used widely for the purpose of burnish at furniture shops.
