Police on Monday arrested two men at Shomserpur village in Patgram upazila under the district on charge of riding a microbus with illegal display of a home ministry sticker during Eid holidays. The arrestees are Jamaat-e-Islami activist Fazlur Rahman, 42, of Shomserpur village of Patgram and vehicle driver Nazim Khan, 42, of Khaskandi village of Faridpur district, police said. Two other persons allegedly involved in the act, including Anwarul Islam Raju, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mojahid's sister-in-law's husband, however, escaped the raid at Shomserpur village, police said, adding that a case has been lodged with Patgram police station in this connection. The microbus was seized from the house of Anwarul around 9:00pm on Monday, Assistant Sub-Inspector Jagannath Roy of Patgram police station said. Arrested Fazlur said he and his two brothers, who reside in Dhaka, hired the vehicle for Tk 20,000 on Sunday evening and used it to travel to Shomserpur village in Patgram upazila on Monday morning to observe Eid-ul-Azha there. A home ministry official preferring anonymity said, “We use the microbus on rental basis from Sunday to Thursday every week, with a home ministry sticker. It was released on Thursday and scheduled to return today [Wednesday], after the Eid holidays. Displaying the home ministry sticker is forbidden when it is not used for the ministry." Shamsul Huda, owner of the microbus, said, "The home ministry uses my vehicle for rent of Tk 2238 a day on a yearly contract that is scheduled to end in coming January. Mistakenly the sticker which was fixed in front of the vehicle was not covered during Eid holidays."
