Pirates take away cattle, money from farmers
3 alleged killers of cattle traders held
Pirates look away seven cattle, Tk 15 lakh and five mobile sets from farmers on the River Brahmaputra at Rajibpur upazila yesterday.
According to police and locals, a few farmers of Barober Char area of Mohanganj union under Rajibpur upazila of the district went to sell their domestic animals at the make-shift Eid cattle market at Kauniar Char under Dewanganj upazila of Jamalpur district on Friday after noon crossing Brahmaputra river. When the farmers were returning with seven unsold cows by a boat at about 10.30 pm yesterday, a group of 12 to 15 pirates came by a boat and attacked them.
An alleged pirate was later arrested by police.
In Chapainawabganj, police arrested three persons Bhaberbazar area in Bogra town on Friday night in connection with killing of two cattle traders in Naogaon, reports our correspondent.
The arrestees were identified as, Alauddin,40, son of late Abbas Ali of Mahanagar village of Manda upazila in Naogaon and his two aides -- truck driver Milon30,son of Sirazul Islam of Kahalu Bazar area under Kahalu upazila in Bogra and helper Shamim Hossain, 35, son of Abdus Samad of Shaldah village of Manda upazila in Naogaon.
Abdullhhel Baki, officer in-charge of Manda police station said, on a secret information, a police team went to Bogra on Friday and arrested Alauddin from a rental house in Bogra town with the help of local police at around 8:00pm.
On his confessional statement police arrested Milon and Shamim from a petrol pump of the same area and seized a truck.
Earlier, criminals killed two cattle traders, looted money and dumped the bodies near a brick kiln on Naogaon-Rajshahi highway at Shrirampur village of Manda upazila in Naogaon on early Thursday.
Unknown assailants waylaid two brothers Altaf Hossain and Momtaz Hossain while returning to their Pakuria village home from Rajshahi city cattle market on Wednesday late night. The gang killed them tying their hands and legs with rope and took away TK 59,400 and two cattle. Locals found their bodies near a brick kiln and informed police who recovered the bodies from the spot on Friday morning.
