288 Bangladeshis still in Paschimbanga jails

At least 288 Bangladeshi nationals are still languishing at different jails in Paschimbanga of India despite having served their prison sentences, officials said. Hili land port sources said 11 Bangladesh nationals were returned home on expiry of their jail terms on Thursday. Probad Kumar Mondol, officer-in-charge of Bangla Hili Immigration in Dakkhin Dinajpur, handed them over to his Bangladeshi counterpart Nurul Ferdous at around 12:30pm. They are Kabir, son of Liakat Ali, Solaiman, son of Md Hanif, Sadiqul Islam, son of Mohshin Ali, Anisur Rahman, son of Fazlur Rahman of Damur village in Haripur upazila of Thakurgaon; Kirshna Chandra Pal, son of Rakhal Chandra Pal of Bademaganj in Ghatail upazila of Tangail; Hazarat Ali, son of Kader Bepari of Kunikandi village in Sariatpur, Abdur Razzak, son of Akmat Ali of Hatmadhabpur, Ekramul Haque, son of Jamshed Ali, Abdur Rahman, son of Motaleb Ali Dakshigaon, Keshab Chandra Roy, son Parimal Chandra Roy of Chuniyapara village in Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpur; and Kamal Uddin, son of Safir Mohammad Karuna village in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur. In addition to the 11, as many as 35 Bangladeshi nationals returned home on expiry of their jail terms in India since January 1 to August 24 this year, sources said. Of them, two returned home on January 15 this year, one on February 3, 16 on March 23, 13 on August 12 and three on August 24. Earlier, the Indian side in a letter informed the Hili Immigration OC of Dinajpur that 19 listed people would be handed over to Bangladesh. After verifying the list, police administration found the names and addresses of only 11 people.
