Procession, rally demanding removal of Pabna BCL chiefs
Hundreds of Chhatra League (BCL) activists agitated in the town yesterday demanding removal of district unit BCL president and secretary.
The BCL leaders and activists brought out a procession to protest the BCL leadership's 'failure' to form a full-fledged district unit BCL committee in last 18 months after the council.
The processionists paraded the main streets of the town, held a rally and blocked Abdul Hamid Road in front of press club for sometime.
Refuting the allegation, the district BCL president and secretary said that they had submitted a list of full-fledged committee to the central committee but the central committee leaders are yet to approve it.
Sources said, Pabna district unit BCL held its council in May, 2010. BCL central leaders selected Ahmed Sharif Dablu as the president and Rafikul Islam Rumon as the secretary of the district unit BCL and asked them to form the full-fledged district unit committee within one year.
“Although the district unit chiefs were selected in May, 2010, they could not finalise the full-fledged BCL committee hampering the organisational activities of every BCL unit,” said Md Imran Hossain, secretary of Pabna Sadar upazila unit BCL.
Grassroots level BCL leaders and activists agitated frequently for lack of proper leadership for the last 18 months after the council, Imran said.
“We insisted the district president and secretary to form the full-fledged committee for strengthening the organisational activities but they did not pay heed to our opinion,” said SM Sajib, president of Pabna Edward College unit BCL.
Among the BCL leaders, Ziaul Karim Sujon, president of Sadar unit BCL, Nasir Uddin, president of poura unit BCL, Abdullah Al Mamun, secretary of Edward College unit BCL, Mamun Haider Rony, former president of college unit spoke at the rally.
The speakers blamed the district unit president and secretary for the failure to form the full-fledged committee and demanded their immediate removal.
Contacted, Ahmed Sarif Dablu said, “We submitted a list of 101- member committee to the central unit BCL last month but the central committee is yet to approve the committee.”
Rafikul Islam Rumon said BCL is a democratic organisation and so every BCL man should obey the organisational decision.
Asked about the agitation, he termed it as anti-organisational activities by a few people.
