5 Khulna BCL men held on criminal charges
Police arrested five Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists and two sex workers, raiding different places in the city on Tuesday night in connection with a case filed with Daulatpur police station in the evening.
The arrestees are Sohel, 28, Rubel, 25, Shamim, 22, Kamrul, 22, and Tuhin,19, of BCL Daulatpur unit, and sex workers Mariam, 17, and Sheuli, 16.
Rezaul Islam Raju, who identified himself as the editor of fortnightly magazine Drishti, published from Dhaka, lodged the case with Daulatpur Police Station, accusing nine people, including the two sex workers, of blackmailing him and looting his two cellphones, a camera, a gold chain and Tk 3,800.
Two other accused in the case are still at large, officer in charge (OC) of the police station Anwarul Huq Bhuiyan said.
In the case statement, the complainant stated that the accused had confined him to room No 4 of Shamsuzzoha Hall of Daulatpur Government BL University College at around 8:00pm.
“They looted my personnel belongings, physically assaulted me and forced me to get into compromising positions with sex workers Mariam and Shiuli,” he alleged in the statement.
The complainant further said the accused had also threatened to release the obscene images on the website if this incident was disclosed to anyone.
Contacted, Principal Prof Shafiullah said he was not aware of this incident.
