Outlaws claim they tried to kill Digholia UP chairman
Janajuddho faction of outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) on Monday claimed responsibility for Sunday's attempt on life of Digholia UP chairman Gazi Abdul Halim.
A caller identifying himself as Khulna divisional chief of the underground party contacted different local newspaper offices at night and claimed responsibility.
Meanwhile, Farhana Halim, wife of the injured UP chairman lodged an FIR with Digholia PS naming none as accused for attempt on her husband's life.
Combing operations were launched at several places of Digholia, Rupsha and Terokhada upazilas of Khulna district soon after the UP chairman and publicity secretary of district Awami League was injured in armed attack on Sunday afternoon, said inspector Md. Ali Newaz, investigation officer of the case.
Expelled general secretary of Digholia upazila unit Awami League Molla Akram Hossain, picked up by police as a suspect on Sunday night, is still in custody. He is being interrogated, said OC Nasim Khan.
The injured UP chairman, who was admitted to ICU at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital (BSMMU) in Dhaka on Monday afternoon, is yet to regain his sense.
