Bombs, arms recovered in Brahmanbaria

Twenty-three home-made bombs, two pipe-guns and two bullets were recovered from near the Bhadughar bus stand in the town on Friday night. Police said, on information, a police team headed by Md Abdur Rab, OC of Brahmanbaria Sadar Model PS, raided the bus stand area and found 23 cocktails, two pipe-guns and two bullets wrapped with polythene paper. None was arrested as those were recovered in an abandoned state. Later, the cocktails were dipped in water on the police station premises and the pipe guns and bullets were kept at malkhana (store). Contacted, OC Md Abdur Rab said that the cocktails are bigger than usual size. In Bagerhat, police arrested a man along with a firearm and two bullets from his house at Sonakur village in Rampal upazila early yesterday. The arrestee was identified as Mahazir Sheikh, 38, son of Ohid Sheikh of the village, reports our correspondent. OC of Rampal PS Shahidul Islam said, acting on secret information, a team of police raided Mahazir's house and arrested him. Later, on the basis of his confession, police recovered a home made gun and two bullets from under the earth. Police said Mahazir is an arms peddler and involved in the illegal trade since 2001.
